Brasília, June 4, 2015 – Known worldwide as a major food exporter, Brazil has seized the opportunity of the Universal Exposition in Milan (June 3-4, 2015) to share the main policies and social technologies that enabled the country to leave FAO’s World Hunger Map in 2014.
The International Cooperation Seminar Social Policies for Development – Special Edition “Brazil: Overcoming Hunger is Possible” was promoted by the Ministry of Social Development and Fight against Hunger (MDS), with the support of the World Bank and UNESCO. The Seminar allowed the Brazilian trajectory to be shared with visitors, stimulating debates aligned with the thematic proposal of the Brazil Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015: “Feeding the World with Solutions”.
“It is important to share experiences that worked out, especially because they relate to a challenge that seemed insuperable”, said Tereza Campello, Brazil’s Minister for Social Development and Fight against Hunger. “In only one decade, about 15 million people left the condition of food insecurity, leaving behind a problem that compromised the expectations of many generations in Brazil”.
