The Webinar to present the Brazil Learning Initiative for a World without Poverty (WWP) was held on March 15 (Tuesday), at 9 a.m. (Washington DC – daylight saving time).

The seminar was broadcasted in Spanish on March 11 (Friday), at 9 a.m. (Washington DC) and in Portuguese on December 28, 2015.

The Brazil Learning Initiative for a World without Poverty (WWP) is a partnership between the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA), the Ministry of Social Development and Fight against Hunger (MDS), the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG) of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the World Bank.

The Initiative aims to identify, document and disseminate the Brazilian experience with the design and implementation of policies and programs to promote social development and poverty reduction. Since 2014, the WWP has been developing series of knowledge products about the Unified Registry for Social Programs, the Bolsa Família Programand the “Brazil without Extreme Poverty” Plan.

The Webinar Sharing knowledge on social development policies: the Brazilian experience was aimed to disseminate the activities of the WWP for practitioners and policy makers in the area of social policy around the world, researchers and the general public.

It was broadcasted live and was a partnership between the WWP and the Global Development Learning Network in Brazil (GDLN Brasil), with the support of the Center for Advanced Studies in Public Administration and Government (CEAG) and the National Network of Education and Research (RNP).

Bernardo Kipnis, coordinator of the GDLN Brazil and vice president of the GDLN Americas Foundation, commented on the operation of the Global Network in Brazil and the association with the WWP. He also explained the similarity of the two projects in disseminating knowledge and ensuring learning.

The presentation on social development policies in Brazil was made by the panelist Luis Henrique Paiva, research associate at the IPC-IG, researcher at IPEA and former national secretary of the Bolsa Familia Program.

During the round of questions and answers the audience showed great interest in understanding a bit more about urban productive inclusion programs and about the WWP and GDLN’s role on sharing knowledge.

luiz-henrique2_1Luis Henrique Paiva –
 Permanent civil servant for the Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management. Currently working with the Directorate of Studies and Economic Relations and International Policies of the IPEA, and he collaborates in joint projects with the IPC-IG. Sociologist graduated at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), as well with a Ph.D. from the same institution, he also holds a Master’s in Sociology (Federal University of Campinas) and Social Policies (University of Southampton). Luis Henrique has served as advisor, national secretary and assistant national secretary for the Bolsa Família Program at the MDS.

 

prof-bernardoBernardo Kipnis – Coordinator of the GDLN Brazil and vice president of the GDLN Americas Foundation. Economist graduated at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), with a masters in Economics at the University of Brasilia (UnB) and a PhD in Comparative Education at the University of London. He also teaches at the Faculty of Education at UnB and is a researcher at CEAG.
